Backlinks part 1: establishing back links
Keywords are essential to create a good index with Search Engines. As I have said, when the Search Engines trawl your site, they look for commonly occuring words. They take these commonly occuring words and label your site with these words. When a search is initiated on the search engine, they take the keywords entered into the search engine and pull up a list of all the sites that have been labelled with these keywords. So you can see the substantial importance of using keywords. But keywords themselves will not get you far up the listings, although they will get you on the listings. There is no benefit in getting on the list but sitting on page 42 of the Search Engine search.
What you need is a good way of making your site more respectable to the Search Engines. Remember that it is the goal of the Search Engines to put they best sites that they can find to the top of any search. Because of this, Search Engines develop many ways of grading sites. The exact details of the systems that they use are usually a mystery. But we do know some of the ways to increase your sites respectability.
I have already outlined a powerful way to increase your rank and respectability with the Search engines, and that is to post and update regualrly. This is a great way to show the search engines that your site is fresh and vibrant. The more you update your site, the better Search Engines will view your site and the higher they will rank you.
But there is more that you can do. Another great method for showing the Search Engines that you have a respectable site is to set up back links.
Back links are your best friend as a site owner or blogger. Not only are you going to get traffic from people actually click on them to view your site, but the benefits to your Page Rank are outstanding.
A backlink is a link to your site from another site. The best way to do this is to build relationships with other webmasters by posting comments on their sites. Make your comments really good quality so it doesnt seem like spam, and include a link to your site. Email bloggers or contact then to get a link on their blogroll. Add links from your blogroll to other site masters - and tell them. They may well return the favour.
This is a great way to build your credibility with Search Engines and result in increased traiffic and a better index.
